Achilles tendinitis and bursitis Kager
Definition :
The Achilles tendon is the connection between the calf muscle and the the heel bone. When there is inflammation, tendonitis develops. There are also multiple bursa, which are bags of fluid in the region in question that prevents friction between the different structures in question. These bursa may also be irritated in the triangle of Kager or behind the heel. There is then the presence of bursitis. Sometimes the spine radiograph demonstrates the insertion of the Achilles tendon is called posterior heel spur. This is calcification of the tendon.
Symptoms :
Pain is the first sign of tendinitis. The swelling and loss of flexibility (feeling of stiffness) are also common symptoms. Bursitis is painful to the touch regions and friction in shoes. Sometimes they are spongy to the touch due to fluid accumulation.
Cause :
The causes are many, a bad position in the effort, faulty footwear, prolonged labor or a sudden movement.
Treatments :
- Ice (block of 15 minutes to achieve the anti-inflammatory effect)
- Elevation of the heel (with high heels or heel)
- Orthotics plantar device if an alignment problem is noted
- Padding of silicone or other to protect the area against the friction
- Anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, etc…
